Glossary

Additive

Additional materials that alter and improve properties concerning light, weather and temperature resistance, ease of processing and so on. Often waxes and polymers.

Dyes

Organic coloured materials used for adding colour. Dissolved in the melted plastic carrier.

Extruder

Processing machines that use pressure and temperature to mix together and disperse individual components.

Extrusion

The process of melting down the plastic in an extruder or kneader.

Masterbatches

The term has been adopted from the rubber industry. Carefully calculated composition of pigments in waxes and polymers. The preparations consists of pigment, fillers, additives and carriers (plastics), and are made in extruders or kneaders.

Pigments, fillers

Raw materials such as colour pigments, soot, titanium oxide, talcum etc. They are present in the plastic carrier in the form of solids.
